Principal’s Weekly Bulletin – 11/10/2026

Good morning,

These are challenging times for us in school with restrictions on how we operate and planned strikes commencing on Wednesday. While I cannot email parents / guardians currently, I will continue to post important announcements and updates on Compass and our school website www.stsetons.ie

Throughout the industrial action, our priority in St Seton’s is to ensure school life continues for our students with as little disruption as possible. We have two weeks before the midterm break and while both of these weeks could be disrupted with strike days, all of the other days will be maintained with high quality teaching and learning activities, classroom activities, school trips, clubs and extra curricular activities.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation through this period. The staff of St Seton’s have always been well supported by the community during any industrial action before and we are very appreciative for that.

Please read through the important updates below.

With kind regards,
Sarah Green

Monday 12th October – School Finishes at 3.15pm

School will finish on Monday at 3.15pm to facilitate the nomination process for two new teacher representatives to the Board of Management. Ordinarily, this is done at a staff meeting but since they cannot take place currently, the Board has permitted a slightly early finish on Monday. The new Board of Management come into effect on Thursday, 15th October 2026.

Contact with Teachers during Industrial Action

Due to the ongoing industrial action, class teachers are unable to engage in phone calls or emails to parents / guardians. Year Heads may contact parents in relation to discipline issues. Home School Liaison Coordinators and Special Class and Special Education Needs Coordinators can continue to make contact with parents / guardians as they normally would.

Please rest assured that contact will be made by school staff in relation to any emergency or health and safety issue involving any child.

We hope that these measures need only be observed briefly.

The school will notify parents / guardians of any changes to this situation as soon as they arise.

Strike Action – Wednesday 14th October

The ASTI, TUI and FÓRSA have informed the board of management that their members have been directed to take strike action on Wednesday, 14 October. Pickets will be placed on all schools, colleges and education centres where ASTI, TUI and FÓRSA members are employed on that day.
In the case of the strike going ahead on 14 October and any subsequent date, the board of management will not be in a position to discharge its responsibilities with regard to the care of students in its charge.

In view of this, the school will not be open to receive students on 14th October.
Please ensure that you do not send your child to school on 14 October.

Please see written correspondence from Mr John Barry, the Chairperson of the Board of Management here: Strike Action – Wednesday 14th October 2026

JC Results 2026

Congratulations to the Junior Cycle class of 2026 who received very good results on Wednesday. As the first cohort to enter 1st year in St Seton’s, this is a special group in St Seton’s history and we are so proud that their results reflected the ability and potential of the group.

In St Seton’s, we encourage every student to do their best. Everyone’s best ability is different and success looks different for everyone. I want to single out Jack Broderick for his outstanding achievement of 4 Distinctions – absolutely incredible results. Congratulations Jack!

Some of the proudest results for me were students who passed a subject they were finding particularly difficult. Our annual awards night is due to take place on Wednesday 25th November and we look forward to honouring and celebrating the achievements of our JC 2026 students alongside their parents / guardians.

Numeracy Week – 12th – 16th October

The majority of activities will take place during maths class to avoid disruption to classes.

The Maths Fair will take place in the SC canteen on Friday 16th October from 09.30 – 11.30. TY students will host the 1st years and 5th class at designated times.

October Assessments

The October assessments are underway. Please encourage your son/daughter to put in extra effort to prepare and study for these assessments. The preparations now will pay off ahead of the Christmas assessments and make them less stressful. These assessments are class test and will be finished by midterm. They are spread out over a period of three weeks to avoid an overload of tests in one week. The results will be sent to parents/guardians through Compass report on 5th November.
