Principal’s Weekly Bulletin – 13/02/2026

Good afternoon Parents / Guardians,

As we come to the end of the first half of this spring term, I want to thank you for your continued support of our students and staff. This week saw the completion of our Mock Examinations for 3rd & 6th years and I want to congratulate the students for their good attendance and engagement for what are challenging exams. Congratulations to our TY students who completed their second work experience placement.  It is always encouraging to see our students striving to do their best in class, in activities, and in how they represent our school community.

As we approach St. Valentine’s Day, we are reminded of the importance of kindness, respect, and appreciation for one another – the value of LOVE is central to St Seton’s and we actively promote it in our school each day. I hope you and your loved ones have a lovely day tomorrow.

I hope the midterm break provides an opportunity for rest, family time and a well-earned reset for everyone. We look forward to welcoming students back refreshed and ready for the second half of this busy term.

Wishing you all a happy St. Valentine’s Day and a safe and enjoyable midterm break. Please take some time to read the important information below.

Warm regards,
Sarah Green

Principal

An Tús Nua

The next An Tús Nua meeting will take place on 23rd February at 4pm. Jennifer Cummins, TD, is visiting the school on Friday 27th February. Councillor Ray Cunningham visited today.

All parents / guardians are requested to engage with local representatives and advocate for St Seton’s and the need for our school building to be prioritised for construction. The next meeting of An Tús Nua is taking place on Monday, 23rd February and we will be putting an action plan together to include a Public Meeting to be held in April. We need the support of parents and guardians as our students’ primary educators to work alongside the school to get us established in one new building on one campus!

School Culture Review

As part of an ongoing leadership project, our Senior Leadership Team have initiated a school culture review within the school. The culture of a school can often be thought of “the way we do things around here”. Part of this project will involve seeking feedback from Parents and Guardians about their experiences of engaging with our school and talking about “What it is like to be a parent / guardian of a student who attends St Seton’s.” We look forward to sharing more information and letting you know how you can get involved in this review after midterm. The School Culture Review is part of our overall Strategic Planning for the next three years of St Seton’s.

Parent Teacher Meeting – 26th February 2026

A reminder that there are Parent Teacher Meetings Scheduled for 3rd & 6th Years on Thursday, 26th February from 4.15pm – 6.45pm. These meetings will take place on the Senior Campus. These are particularly important meetings, following the recent Mock Exams. The 3rd & 6th year Mock Exam Reports will be available at the Parent Teacher Meeting.

TY Update

Work Experience: Employer feedback has been extremely positive, with students described as “fully engaged,” “using initiative,” “demonstrating kindness,” “confident working independently,” and with “no sign of phone use” . Thanks to TY Core Team and TY Yearheads for contacting employers this week. Students will do check-ins with the same team during the week of 23rd February to feedback on their work experience.

Transition Planning

Incoming 1st Years: The 1:1 Parent/Guardian meetings for Incoming 1st Years are taking place from 23rd – 27th February. The vast majority of these meetings will take place on Monday – Wednesday with mop ups taking place on Thursday and Friday. Thanks to the Transition Team staff members who carry out the meetings which always leave our new parents / guardians feeling more reassured and comfortable.

Preparation for Transitions to Senior Cycle: There are staff planning meetings for 3rd and TYs taking place the week we return after midterm. The purpose of these meetings are to ensure the right progression pathway is planned for all of our 3rd and TY students. Ms Maher has also planned for a student information session to take place Wednesday, 25th March at 10am on the JC for 3rd years to be informed about TY and 5th year options. The Information Evenings for TY 2026/27 and Senior Cycle: 5th Year 26/27 are taking place on 19th March and all 3rd & TY parents / Guardians are encouraged to attend.

BOM Meeting

The next BOM meeting will take place on 24th March 2026 at 7pm.

Attendance Success!

Please keep up the positive work of encouraging your children to attend school every day, every class. We are delighted to say that when we completed our annual report in January to TESS which details the students under 16, who have missed twenty days already this year, the number of students reported was 106, compared to 137 reported this time last year in 24/25. This is a 33% reduction! Satisfactory attendance continues to be a big problem but this is an encouraging statistic. Our overall average attendance as a school currently stands at 78%. Please continue to work together with us to help us to improve and get our annual attendance over 80%. Remember, every day is a new school day and every day counts.

Young People, Eating Disorders & Disordered Eating Support for Parents/ Carers

ISPCC is delighted to deliver a FREE webinar to parent’s/ carers on ‘Young People, Eating Disorders & Disordered Eating – Support for Parents/ Carers’ which takes place on Thursday the 19th of February at 7pm.
